You can’t hold it in your hands, you can’t stop it and you don’t know what it will bring. But the mysteries of time can be captured in a song, and we’ll share many of these beautiful reflections at our semiannual concert.

Join Main Line Singers at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 7th for “It’s About Time! Songs for the Times of Your Life.”

Past, present and future will harmonize as we share selections including “Memory,” “Yesterday,” “As Time Goes By,” “Seasons of Love,” “Just In Time,” “The Times They Are A-Changin’” and “Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin’.”

Treasure this temporal tribute at Paoli Presbyterian Church, located at 225 S Valley Road in Paoli. Tickets, which include a post-concert reception with refreshments, are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. All payment methods are accepted. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free.

Surrey Services for Seniors (Surrey) is a leader in providing community and connection to help older adults navigate and thrive in each of the transitional phases of older life. Surrey inspires and enables all of us, as we age, to live with independence and dignity, and as engaged members of the community.

Surrey provides critically needed services like transportation, nutrition, resource navigation, and small home repairs, around core home-care services while offering center-based services, including fitness programs, support groups, and educational, cultural and arts programming. Surrey’s broad range of services are provided by nurses, social workers, experienced staff in the field of aging services, and a well-prepared volunteer corps.

By supporting the choir, sponsors help spread the joy of group singing across the Main Line and can reap benefits including logo inclusion on the Main Line Singers website, free tickets and ads on social media and in online concert programs. Benefits last for one year from the date of sponsorship payment.

“Our corporate sponsors help allow us to hire local musicians to enhance our performances in the community,” said Julia Raizen, head of development for Main Line Singers.

A modern community chorus based in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Main Line Singers performs a fun and accessible repertoire drawn from Broadway, Hollywood, rock and popular music. The choir’s spring concert will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Katharine of Siena in Wayne. 

For this concert, Main Line Singers will be partnering with the Women’s Resource Center (WRC), a registered 501c3 nonprofit that supports women and girls in the Greater Philadelphia area.

“Every season we reach out to support another nonprofit as we share our love of music,” Raizen said.

We won’t bring Toto but we will bring the ukes when we sing Over the Rainbow at our upcoming concert at 1:30 p.m. Sat., Feb. 4, at St.  Katharine of Siena Church in Wayne.

Fun Facts:

• Over the Rainbow was written by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg.
• Arlen wrote the music for the song while he and his wife were driving down Sunset Boulevard on their way to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.
• Israel K. called the recording studio at 3 a.m. to record his version, and he did it in one take. 

Now, imagine you could wrap that sunshine up and send it to someone special to brighten their day. And there you have it, John Denver’s 1973 contemporary folk hit that played all over the radio for weeks on end.

• Sunshine on My Shoulders went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
• Denver wrote the song in Minnesota in late winter while in a melancholy frame of mind.

• Denver, an activist and humanitarian, died at 53 when the light plane he was piloting crashed in Monterey Bay in California.

• In 1979, Harrison wrote Here Comes the Moon while on vacation in Hawaii.   

We can’t promise the raft when we perform this beautiful classic in our upcoming February concert, Sun, Moon & Stars. But thanks to Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer, we can promise the journey. It’s sure to conjure the romance and adventure of our most storied river.

• Moon River was composed by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer. It was performed by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961 and won an Academy Award for best original song.
• Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published in 1884 in the UK and 1885 in the U.S. Other writers who have written about the Mississippi River include Herman Melville, Edna Ferber and George R.R. Martin.
• The name Mississippi comes from the Ojibwe Misi-ziibi, or Great River.
• The river is considered the most endangered river in the U.S. due to pollution and climate change.  

And what better dream is there than a dream of the one you love? It’s the perfect way to end the day. Okay, sitting in a bistro by the Seine with a glass of wine is pretty good, too. But you get the idea…sweet dreams.
